This was one of the first pieces Barbara created after making her move to Northern Michigan — and you can feel that sense of arrival in every layer of it. A sweeping landscape unfolds across the surface: a towering pine in the foreground, a glassy lake stretching across the middle distance, white birch trees clustered near a little red building, and rolling hills disappearing into a sky built from torn paper and cloud-shaped collage. It is quiet, green, and deeply Northern Michigan.
Peaceful Place is a mixed media work built entirely by hand — layers of paper, embroidery floss, thread, ribbon, buttons, drywall tape, and acrylic paint assembled into a landscape that feels as textured and alive as the place that inspired it. At 30" × 22", matted and framed, it is one of the largest and most intricate works Barbara has made.
