'Art As Therapy' — Create Your Own Peace Stick

  • Twisted Fish Art Gallery 10443 South Bay Shore Drive Elk Rapids, MI, 49629 United States (map)

Peace sticks — sometimes called prayer sticks — are sacred objects used across cultures throughout history, from Indigenous American traditions like the Hopi and Navajo to Japanese and Christian practices. Serving as physical anchors for prayers, hopes, offerings, and intentions, they are often adorned with feathers, herbs, carved designs, and other meaningful objects. They are used in meditation, ritual, and personal reflection.

In this special workshop at Twisted Fish Art Gallery in Elk Rapids, Barbara brings her thirty years of art therapy experience into a creative and community-centered experience. You'll create your own personal peace stick — one that expresses your own hopes and dreams for a more peaceful life, community, and world. Barbara will guide you through the process and create space to reflect on the experience together as a group.

As a special addition, participants will also contribute to a community peace stick being created for the Twisted Fish Gallery garden — something that will carry the intentions of everyone in the room long after the workshop ends.

Refreshments will be served. Feel free to bring any personal items you'd like to incorporate into your work — feathers, meaningful objects, photos, anything that holds significance for you.

No art skills needed. Just an open heart.
