3-Week Reduction Linocut Printmaking

  • Elizabeth Lane Oliver Center for the Arts 132 Coast Guard Road Frankfort, MI, 49635 United States (map)

Most printmaking lets you pull as many prints as you want. Reduction linocut is different — and that's exactly what makes it exciting.

In this technique, you carve, print, carve again, and print again, building up layers of color on a single block. Each new color requires new cuts, and once those cuts are made there's no going back. By the end of the process you'll have a complete edition of multi-color prints that can never be reproduced. What you make in these three sessions is genuinely one of a kind.

Barbara guides you through the entire process week by week — from selecting your subject and learning the tools in week one, to transferring your design and beginning your first layers in week two, to completing your finished edition in week three. All supplies are included. Bring a sketchbook and pencils if you'd like to take notes along the way.

All levels welcome. If you've never touched a carving tool before, you're in exactly the right place.
