This painting asks you to slow down and look — and then look again.
All Snug and Safe is a cross-section of the whole wide world. Above ground, a peaceful farm stretches across a rolling green landscape — a red barn, a tree house, sheep in the fields, a bear emerging from a rocky den, apple blossoms in bloom. Below the surface, colorful fish swim through an underwater layer teeming with leaves and light. And deeper still, underground rooms built from intricate patterns and warm earthy tones house the small creatures of the world going quietly about their lives — a child reading surrounded by bunnies and mice, a fox curled up asleep, rabbits nestled together in a round burrow, roots connecting everything from the tree above all the way down.
Barbara created this piece because she loves when people find their own stories inside her work. And All Snug and Safe has more stories in it than almost anything else in the collection. Every time you look, something new appears.
This 14" × 18" print is the only format available. It is made from an original created in watercolor, color pencil, black pen, and metallic marker on black paper — a combination that gives the whole surface a luminous, almost glowing quality that you simply have to see.
